A dual fuel system combines an electric heat pump with a high-efficiency gas furnace. This system not only keeps your home warm during the cold days but also cools it down during the hot summer days. The best part? It can be over 100% efficient under the right conditions!

How Does the Rebate Work?

  • Up to $15,000 Rebate: Eligible for customers who upgrade to a dual fuel system.
  • Smart Thermostat Requirement: Automatically switches to gas heating when the temperature drops below a certain point:
    • Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island: 5°C or lower
    • Southern Interior and Northern B.C.: 2°C or lower

  • Notice of Assessment (NOA)
  • Social Assistance documents

Are You Eligible?

  • Residential FortisBC Account Holder
  • Primary Residence**: At least 12 months old, single-family, duplex, triplex, row home, townhouse, or mobile home on a permanent foundation.
  • Application Deadline**: Within six months of the paid invoice date.

Dual Fuel System Specific Requirements

  • New Installation: Replacing an existing gas furnace (at least 10 years old) with a new central ducted air source heat pump and high-efficiency gas furnace.
  • Licensed Contractor: Installed by a Technical Safety BC licensed contractor, a Safety BC gas contractor who is a member of the Home Performance Contractor Network.
  • Eligible System: Listed on the rebate eligible product list with an AHRI certified reference number.
  • Region-Specific Temperature Settings: Thermostat set to 5°C (Lower Mainland & Vancouver Island) or 2°C (Southern Interior & Northern BC) or lower.

Upgrade with CE Plumbing & Heating – Save $5,000

Income-qualified customers can receive a $5,000 rebate when upgrading their primary electric space heating system to an air source heat pump. These systems use less electricity and provide air conditioning in the summer. At CE Plumbing & Heating, we guide you through the process, ensuring you meet all eligibility criteria.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Residential Customer: Must be a FortisBC or municipal electricity customer (Grand Forks, Penticton, Summerland, or Nelson Hydro) with one active account.
  • Household Income: Combined annual income below the maximum for your household size (see table).
  • Replacing Electric Heating: Must replace an existing hard-wired electric heating system (e.g., baseboards, radiant ceiling, or forced-air furnace).
  • Primary Residence: Home must be at least 10 years old, 3,500 sq. ft. or less, and a single-family, duplex, triplex, row home, townhouse, or manufactured/mobile home.
  • Licensed Installation: Installed by a licensed heating and cooling contractor with a GST number and BC business license, preferably an HPCN member.
